Golden Gate in Vladimir. Russia.

The Golden Gate was built to 1164; it had the form of the wide archway with the built-on Church of the Deposition of the Robe. The Gate got the name “Golden” thank the shining sheets of the gold-plated copper covered it. Besides defensive purpose, the gate served a use as the triumphal arch, and it decorated the entrance to the rich part of Vladimir.

The Golden Gate survived with the numerous rebuilding. The arch with the side pillars and the fighting ground are relating to the ancient time. Because of the frequent fires and invasions to the Vladimir, the Gate was damaged and repaired not once. The last reconstruction was in 1795-1810 when the buttress in the round towers was attached to the pillars, and the new stone church rose on the top of the gate.

The church doesn’t operate at present, there is the historical and military exposition presented the weapon and ammunition from the XIII to XX centuries.

The Golden Gate is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a part of the White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal.
