The National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan (Национальный музей Республики Татарстан)

The National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan is one of the largest regional museums in Russia. The museum collection contains more than 900 thousand exhibits of the ancient and contemporary culture of Tatarstan and the Volga region.

The museum building is the former Kazan Shopping Arcade which was built in 1815. The architecture of the Museum building is specified by massive forms, arch covering and exquisite decoration.  A floor area of the Museum of the Republic Tatarstan is 3500 m2 and occupies the space of the Shopping Arcade almost wholly.

The most significant section of the Museum is the antiques of the Volga region and ancient civilizations. There are  Egyptian pottery vessel of IV millennia B.C., the old dishes of IV-III millennia B.C., Egyptian painted sarcophagus, tomb arrows of the Mordovian ossuary, jewels of the Volgian Bulgaria.

The section of the ethnography presents the culture of the Volga region and the Kama region people in XVIII-XX centuries – clothes, household and interior goods, jewels, holy vessels, and musical instruments, the coins, manuscripts, and scrolls.

The Museum holds regular thematic exhibitions, lectures, and cultural events.

Thursday – from 13 to 21 (ticket office till 20)

Friday – from 10 to 17 (ticket office till 16)
