The Museum of the Old Technologies and Tools (Музей старинной техники и инструментов)

The Museum of the Old Technologies and Tools was opened in 2014 in Nizhniy Novgorod City by Vyacheslav Khurtin. The founder of the Museum was involved with mechanics from a young age, and even at that time, he started to collect different tools, equipment, and instruments. The current collection of the Museum is more than 2000 exhibits.

The exposition focus on the evolution of the technology in Russia and foreign countries. There are the machines, equipment, and tools of the XVII-XIX centuries, and most of them are restored and in operation – the lathes, weighing systems, clockwork drives, measurement tools, navigation systems, bicycles, and other more.

The particular part of the collection is about Soviet period. The telephone from USSR is still working, and the TV-set “КВН-49” shows the movie. On the top of that, there is the collection of the rare musical and cinema instruments – the phonograph of Edison, gramophones, mechanical organ, musical box, cinematograph projector of the first half of the XX century.

The exposition of the Museum of the Old Technologies and Tools is interactive, but some exhibits can be used only with the Museum staff members.
