The Ivanovo Museum of Cotton (Музей ивановского ситца)

Ivanovo is a city that is famous in Russia for its textile production. Products and the best samples of different periods can be found in the Ivanovo Museum of Cotton. Its exhibits are handmade examples of weaving, including the rare ones, created by famous masters in past times.

The Ivanovo Museum of Cotton was opened in 1987 in a mansion of the early 20th century, once owned by the Ivanovo manufacturer and patron Dmitri Burylin. The building constructed in art nouveau style, today has a historical and architectural value.

The museum exposition consists of two collections. “Ivanovo Textile. History and Modernity” will tell about the appearance and development of weaving and chintz in Ivanovo. It stores about 500 thousand exhibits, which relate to different periods of textile production, from the 19th century up to the present-day, which allows tracking the changes in fabrics design from folk ornaments to a special vivid decorative design made by the famous Ivanovo Textile.
