Kaliningrad Regional Musical Theater (Калиниградский Музыкальный Театр)

The Kaliningrad Musical Theatre was founded in difficult for Russia 90th years of last century from the initiative of young actors supported by the cultural community of the town. At that time, people especially wanted new ideas and a new vision of art.

A former TV center building was reconstructed owing to activist’s efforts. Then there was opened a drama school, which attracted talented young people from all region. Step by step youth initiative grew up into a real professional theatre. Serious classical works appeared on the stage. The Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) opened here its school. Today many famous and talented people teach young actors here.

Nowadays, jazz shows, concerts, operettas, dramas, comedies, children performances, and New Year events are carried out in the theatre. The Moscow famous theatre “Helicon-Opera” is a partner of The Kaliningrad Musical Theatre, and many performances are made by them together.

At the beginning of its history, the Theater used a small German building, there were classrooms for sculpture lessons of The German Academy of Arts before World War II. In 2011 the Kaliningrad Regional Music Theatre was moved into the former Fishermen House of Culture. This House of Culture was built in 50th for Communist Party meeting, movie viewing, discos.

  • Pushkin “The Tale of the Golden Cockerel”;

  • Rybnikov “The New Adventures of Pinocchio.”
  • T. A. Hoffmann “The Nutcracker”;
  • C. Andersen “The Snow Queen.”

  • Kuzmin, E. Shashin “Musical Detective,” children’s musical;
  • Muravyov, E. Shashin, T. Ivanov “Vivat, Munchausen!”, family musical;
  • E. Shashin “The Magic Ring,” a children’s musical.
